Shoaib Makani

Shoaib found his calling in entrepreneurship at the age of 16 during his high school days at the Texas Academy of Math and Science. Recognizing the high margins in network cabling, Shoaib bought spools of cat 5 and started selling LAN cables to his peers out of his dorm room. Shoaib quickly extended his offering to include computer accessories and custom built PCs. School administrators caught on soon enough and shut down his burgeoning enterprise, but that early experience sparked Shoaib’s interest in technology entrepreneurship.

Prior to joining Khosla Ventures, Shoaib was at AdMob where he focused on business development and sales in emerging international markets. Shoaib started and led the Latin America business for AdMob, establishing the company as the leading mobile advertising network in Brazil, Mexico and Argentina. After setting up a team to manage local operations in Latin America, Shoaib shifted his attention to Asia-Pacific and India, helping to grow and localize the publisher network and expand AdMob’s sales footprint in the region.

Prior to joining AdMob, Shoaib was a Product Marketing Manager at Google, responsible for marketing and distribution of Google’s suite of mobile products for consumers.

Shoaib earned his BSc with Honours from The London School of Economics where he was active in the Entrepreneurship Society and student government.

In his spare time, Shoaib enjoys mountain sports of all varieties, playing basketball and tennis, traveling, reading, and competitive poker.
